Pokémon is a media franchise owned by The Pokémon Company, which was founded around 1995 by satoshi tajiri. it focuses on fictional creatures called "pokémon" (short for pocket monsters), which are captured and trained by humans called pokémon trainers to make them battle each other for sport. as of january 2024, there are 1025 different pokémon.
