Paraphilia

A paraphilia is recognized by the DSM-V and ICD-11 as an adverse sexual attraction that inhibits the functioning of a person on a social, mental, and/or practical level. A paraphilia is pervasive, whereas a fetish can be practiced comfortably and with consent.

Glossary

• Pedophilia refers to a condition where people 16 years of age and older are sexually attracted to children younger than thirteen years of age.
• Child molestation and child sexual abuse refers to physical sexual contact between an adult and a minor. The definitions of "adult" and "minor" in this context vary by jurisdiction.
• CP (child pornography) and CSAM (child sexual abuse material) refer to pornographic or fetishistic content of a juvenile (a person under the age of eighteen).
• Grooming refers to when a child is enticed by an adult for sexual, romantic, or otherwise exploitative gains. Grooming can happen to anyone at any age, but the most widely-accepted perception pertains to child abuse.
• Zoophilia refers to when a human feels sexual attraction for animals. Zoophilia is not the same as bestiality, but due to the high number of zoophiles who support it, it's often communicated as one in the same.
• Bestiality refers to a sexual act (such as oral, anal, and vaginal contact) between a human and animal.
• Anti-contact refers to being opposed to sexual, romantic, or otherwise harmful paraphilia-based interactions between the perpetrator and ideological victim.
• Non-contact refers to not participating in such interactions, regardless of whether or not the person agrees with them morally.
• Neutral-contact refers to the subject not having an opinion on ethics on acting on a paraphilia.
• Practicing refers to individuals who have proceeded with questionable sexual actions.
• Pro-contact refers to supporting harmful paraphilic practices, whether that be through practicing, advocating for changes in the law and/or social perception, or supporting other pro-contact and/or practicing paraphiles.
• Questioning refers to someone who questions their identity as a paraphile. Reasons for questioning may include infrequent sexual fantasies, confusion between intrusive thoughts and attraction, and a lack of diagnosis.
• P-OCD refers to someone who believes they're a pedophile based on unfounded beliefs. The zoophilic equivalent is Z-OCD.
• Offense refers to a sexual, romantic, or similar crime. An offender may be titled a sex offender, violent offender, felon, pedophile (colloquial), zoophile (colloquial), and so on. (Not all offenders are paraphiles, and not all paraphiles offend.)
• Recidivism refers to repeating an offense. Recidivism is studied, and legal actions for previous offenses often include estimations of one's potential for recidivism. Recovery and restrictions (such as probation) can lower (or eliminate) recidivism.
• Recovery refers to measures to control paraphilic desires and/or actions (to varying degrees of effectiveness). Examples include making support groups (such as the NOMAP community), conversion therapy, chemical and/or surgical castration.
• Paramisia refers to bigotry towards paraphiles. (This isn't to be confused with hatred for things like bestiality and child molestation. Some of this hatred is passed onto them from their actions. It's also not paramisia to disagree with communities like NOMAPs or pro-para, as they might be preaching a more ethical approach to their feelings, but publicizing them is a gray area. Berating people for thoughts they don't act on and/or act subtle about is bigoted and paranoid, however. Paras who deny/cover it up are even riskier.)
